The LI-8100 Automated Soil CO2 Flux System

pastilleContinuous, unattended long-term measurements

pastilleDesigned to minimize perturbations within the chamber during measurements

pastilleMeasurements are made at or near ambient CO2 concentrations

pastilleAttention to details refined by LI-COR's years of expertise in soil CO2 flux.

pastilleThe LI-8100 is an economical and lightweight system for measuring soil CO2 flux. It is rugged, portable and weather tight with low power consumption. It is ideal for short-term survey or long-term unattended soil CO2 flux measurements over a wide variety of conditions. It can be operated using a laptop computer or a Palm PDA, using wireless or serial communication.

pastilleWhy the LI-8100 ?

The LI-8100 is a dedicated soil CO2 flux system designed for global carbon cycle research. Consistent with LI-COR's pioneering approach to instrument design, the LI-8100 is a new system that will advance scientific research related to soil CO2 flux measurements.

  • Automated and Innovative Chamber Design :

- Both survey and long-term chambers close mechanically and automatically.

- Chambers are designed to minimize microclimate perturbations and give uniform results.

  • Flexible Measurement Protocol :

- Use either the Windows® or Palm® interface software to set up your measurement protocol specific to the study area (i.e. forest soils, prairie soils, desert soils etc).

- Use the exclusive LI-8100 Data Analysis Software for further analysis of the data (i.e. change ceratin parameters and recompute data).

Example of Data Analysis Software

  • Accurate Results:

- The LI-8100 uses an NDIR CO2/H2O gas analyzer, which features :

♦ user cleanable optics,

♦ band broadening correction,

♦ pressure and temperature compensation,

♦ no factory recalibration required.

- Both chambers are designed to :

♦ prevent pressure gradients,

♦ allow for good mixing,

♦ measure the flux rate when the chamber CO2 concentrations is near ambient,

♦ minimize leaks using a unique gasket system.

  • Additional Features :

- O-ring sealed components (weather and dust tight),

- Battery or AC operation,

- Connections for soil temperature and moisture probes as well as additional probes (0-5V) or thermocouples,

- Collect data to the LI-8100 internal memory or a flash memory card (included)

- Wi-Fi technology with a Palm Tungsten C PDA.

 New LI-8150 multiplexer

The LI-8150 Multiplexer for LI-8100 soil CO2 Flux system is officially announced for June 2006. This interface box allows to mutiplexe up to 16 chambers on one LI-8100 ! That will allow research community to have a fine approach of temporal and spatial heterogeneity of CO2 soil fluxes.
